I saw some posts on this page asking for resources to learn sign language. When I was in elementary school (eons ago), I had a classmate whose mother was Deaf. Judy’s mom came into school and taught the class the entire alphabet over the course of a few weeks, and to this day, I have not forgotten the alphabet in sign.

To learn sign language, the best place to start is with the alphabet. Signers often refer to letters when they don’t know the sign for what they are trying to say (“fingerspelling”). You can learn the alphabet in no time with regular practice.

According to StartASL.com, to practice, work on memorizing the letters. When you think you’ve got the hang of most of them, try doing the whole alphabet by memory. If you get stuck, take a quick glance at the letter on a chart (see below) and keep going from memory. Practice regularly and you will have them all memorized in no time!
