During this time, I think a lot of parents and kids are realizing that school is so much more than academics! The parents in my niece’s first grade class at Armstrong Elementary in Reston, Virginia, coordinated with each other to make a collage message to send to their teacher to tell her how much they missed her.
Since I’m not sure if it would be ok to post the real one from my niece (privacy issues, etc), I found this one from students in Kenosha county in Wisconsin. Apparently, a lot of students are doing this for their teachers! Here is the article where I found the collage:
Here’s how to do it: 1. Figure out what you want to say. Here's an easy one!
Thank You Ms. Smith
For All You Do
For Us
We All Miss You
2. Assign each student a word to illustrate. Ask their parent to take a picture of them holding the word and email it to you. Make sure the word is written extremely large (the size of an 8.5 x 11 piece of paper) and that the paper position for every image is the same (either all portrait or all landscape)
3. Make sure to invite EVERY student in the class (and understand that not all will likely participate)
4. Download the PicCollage app on your phone.
5. Import the photos into the app. Note: If you need to fill in space in your grid, such as, you have 20 spaces to fill and 18 students, have the students illustrate hearts for those spaces. 6. Email the collage to your teacher with a little note about what it is. Example below: Dear Ms. Smith, The kids wanted you to know they were thinking of you!
Let me know if you decide to create a collage for your teacher, I'd love to see it!
PS: As a former teacher, these are the things that keep you going! If my students sent me this, it would make my day and bring me to tears :-)
